Elemi (Canarium luzonicum)
Elemi (Canarium luzonicum) has a spicy, incense-like scent that is soft and somewhat balsamic.
A member of the same botanical family as frankincense and myrrh, it has been used traditionally
in Europe for the skin.
Elemi is an excellent essential oil for skin care
Elemi has rejuvenating properties that are
specific to reducing wrinkles and helping to nourish mature skin. Elemi is highly regarded
for reducing the look of fine lines and wrinkles, skin support, and for soothing muscles
after exercise. Elemi is an antiseptic and tonic and often used in skin care, soaps, and
incense formulas. Elemi helps speed the healing process and brings a natural vibrancy to
skin that has been damaged by the sun, scarring, or the natural aging process.
Elemi is used extensively in ancient Egypt and the Middle East and later throughout Europe.
Elemi has a long history of use in both medicinal and cosmetic formulas. Elemi is still used
extensively in therapeutic preparations. Highly regarded as a fixative, the Egyptians used
Elemi resin as a part of the embalming process.
Elemi is helpful for respiratory challenges
Elemi can be beneficial for various respiratory complaints including chest infections, catarrh, and sinusitis. Chest infections, especially where there is a lot of phlegm, such as in chronic bronchitis, may be attended to by diffusing the oil and through steam inhalation (adding a few drops of essential oil to a steaming bowl of water).
Elemi is noted in the aromatherapy literature as an analgesic, antiviral, bactericide, balsamic, expectorant, fungicide, tonic and vulnerary, Elemi's main constituents are elemol, elemicine, dipentene, terpineol, limonene and phellandrene.
How to use:
For dietary, aromatic or topical use. When using as a supplement,
dilute one drop in 4 fl. oz. of rice or goat's milk or put one drop into a capsule.
Then take one capsule before each meal or as desired.
